Mediators continue US-Iran negotiations amid war rhetoric: What we know
Trump says latest talks 'going fine'; Iranian leaders say they favour diplomacy but are ready to respond to US attacks.

Iranian officials have been speaking with Qatari mediators about a two-day plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, according to Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in the latest effort to find a diplomatic path out of the US-Israel war on Iran that has caused a serious global energy crisis.
But even amid signs of diplomatic progress, officials from both sides say they are ready for renewed military escalation.
President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly suggested the United States could attack Iran after the November 3 midterm elections, said the latest negotiations were “going fine”, but added that the US still had several Iranian targets to “take care of”.
“I know that our armed forces are more prepared for war than any time before, and we are ready for any scenario,” Araghchi told Al Jazeera.
